HINCAL ULUÇ :
“I FEEL UNABLE TO EXPRESS MY FEELINGS!..”

|
At the end of the film, I have hold my arms around Tolga`s neck. I said “I am writing for fifty years” “This film was the place, which made me most proud to see my signature”.
Tolga Örnek, the wonderful young men who filmed the fabulous Ataturk, Nemrut and Hititler documentaries, told me “I am starting with Gelibolu”. And I wrote in my column tiny memos like “If you have any documentation, or anything to say about Canakkale War you can contact Tolga Ornek from this numbers or address”. It was that small. Tiny...
At the end of the film is running a special thanks list for the people who supported this film. To see my name there surprised me. What fidelity for a tiny help...
You have to see the film, to understand what made me so proud to see my name there.
I am not exaggerating, but I am sure. This film is the best war documentary ever produced. This is the most war opponent film ever. There is no film on the world which explains the war and how meaningless it is, so striking...
We all know about Canakkale Wars, don’t we?..
You think so... I thought so either. I saw, that I didn’t know anything. Among Canakkale I saw that I didn’t know anything about war. Although I saw hundreds of films and read hundreds of books...
Tolga has done a wonderful thing, the war is not being told by historians, literature, specialists, politicians or commanders; it is being told by soldiers, privates who fought in this war.
English, French, Irish, Australian, New Zealander... Turkish...
Tolga tells about Canakkale with the diaries and the letters written to home... All of them happened there, all of them have been written there or told there... there is nothing added or told after...
Then you can feel the terror of war and its brutality... The soldiers take you to their shelters by telling the story personally, to fight with bayonets together, and to be torn apart by bombs together...
Just because the politicians wanted so thousands of young people died in Gallipoli. Then politicians agree the pass which costs thousands of lives, occurs without a single shot. Istanbul is being invaded although Canakkale hasn’t been passed. Then?.. Why ?..
Why have so many young men died?.. Why.. Why .. Tolga’s blood freezing, killing, squeezing, film will be on screen on March...
Then I’m going to write again... Again without a chance to express the film... I know that I won’t be able to express it if I write hundred times about it...
Because it is impossible to express what I felt when I watched Gelibolu!.. |
